Sensei: I Have Passed CCNA Security (640-553)

I passed. Even though I’m working toward my CCIE Routing and Switching, I new this wouldn’t be a chump test. There’s only so much I can say about it under the NDA, but here’s my results and the steps leading up to it.

Follow up:

  • Total questions:  60
  • Total time available:  90 minutes
  • My time to complete:  70 minutes
  • Passing score:  804
  • My score:  844
  • Total prep time, start-to-finish:  1.5 weeks

Not a bad score, but I don’t really consider myself a “B” student, so I’m not terribly thrilled. Back when I took the normal CCNA, I scored a 977, so I hope you’ll understand my disappointment. They really did a good job of testing everything listed on the syllabus, so give it a good read.

Regarding that last line, I literally spent a week and a half on this, but it was a really good initial week. I’m a big fan of the Global Knowledge classes, from the facilities and equipment to the instructors and course material. I took their IINS class that is associated with this exam, but I’d like to specify that that sitting course alone is insufficient. There is so much material to absorb that I’d make an exception to my previous statement for anyone that goes home and studies the material every night. Personally, I went home and worked on some Perl scripts for a major project during lab time and at night when I got home. Thankfully, the course gives you five credits toward the same remote labs that you use during the course, so after the course had ended and I finished the project, I went back and redid the labs. I can’t emphasize enough how important that lab time was.

I took and passed this exam. More GUI-based stuff than I expected, but workable. Here’s a post of my experience: http://techdojo.org/?p=57&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1

Feedbacks From Customers Of Pass4sure:

As a network beginner, I intend to take the CCNA exam in order to improve my competitiveness. In the process of study, I have encountered various questions due to weak basic knowledge; In particular, some technical terms are difficult to understand, so the learning efficiency is relatively low. I often get some study skills and experiences about this exam from the forum. I would have intended to buy tests and labs to strengthen the knowledge point and I plan to learn continuously after the exam.

Fortunately, P4S has recently launched the Study-Guide for our beginners. I bought it to try my luck, the content is very easy, covering more knowledge points, especially for technical terms, it is helpful for me. I improve my learning efficiency through Study-Guide and tests. If you are also a beginner, you can take it into consideration. I believe that there must be a good harvest.

I passed the CCNA exam on 10th January,2009. The exam is relatively simple, so passing the exam is within my expectations.

I think these two chapters: Configure, verify and troubleshoot a switch with VLANs and interswitch communications;Configure, verify, and troubleshoot basic router operation and routing on Cisco devices are the emphasis of the exam ,which will decide the marks you would obtain.

My study materials:

  • CCNA Certification Guide
  • CCNA Study Guide
  • P4S tests
  • P4S lab Guide

Of which, the P4S tests helped me a lot. Here, I would like to thank my friends!

– John (Jan, 13 2009)

I passed the exam of 640-802 yesterday and scored 956/1000, which is satisfying, but the most important thing is that I passed the exam.

About the preparations:

I spent three weeks on preparation, two weeks are used to study the CCNA basics according to the emphasis of the exam. Learning objectively will help you to pass the exam successfully. Of course, only reading books is not very useful. Learning with practice is the most effective method. So I spent the last week on test.

About the exam:

When entering the exam interface, I felt nervous, because this was the first time I took the Cisco exam. But when I observed the real exam, I was relaxed, I was familiar with the questions because of the preparations. It is easy. The most important knowledge points are RIP and OSPF

Now, I am a real CCNA technician, but this is only the start, I need to study further if I want to be more competitive. My next objective is CCNP.

Wish you passing the exam successfully!

CCNA Q&A: CCNA EXAM Prep Time

#01 dosomebiz

I would like to get some feed back from some current CCNA’s on how long it took them to prepare for the CCNA. I am planning to take the 2 exam route. I guess the more detailed question would be how long does it take to prep for the ICND1 exam first and then for the ICND2 exam. I’m want to go ahead and schedule my exam now for (ICND1).

#02 solara

I didn’t do the two exam route so might not be able to answer your question. Probably the first thing we need to know is what’s your networking background? Are you approaching these studies as a novice or do you already have some understanding and experience of networking?

One thing I like to do when preparing for my exams is to set a date and book it with Vue even when I only have a rough idea of when I might sit the test. This gives you something to work to and if you find on the way that you won’t be ready you can always reschedule as late as 24 hours before the test. Alternatively you might be able to bring it forward.

As far as classroom experience, I’ve taken both Net + and A+ certification courses, however I did not take the tests. I have a prettty good understanding of TCP/IP mainly from Net + and on the job experience. I currently work as Computer Support Specialist for a company branch of about 200 employees and 250-300 computers/servers etc.

In house we have several pieces of cisco equipment including catalyst 4500, 3750, 2980 switches, and 2 or 3 standalone routers. I have been learning cisco language (syntax) using an old 2900xl swtich and instructionals online. I am currently the understudy to our IT manager . He actually configures ports and VLAN’s on our network. My experience with actual onnline networking is:

- physically connecting computers & servers to our core 4500 switch and other member switches trunked to it.
- documentation of ip address, subnet masks, gateways
- assigning ip ip address, subnet masks, gateways to network devices
- troubleshooting network connectivity with workstations, servers, printers, etc.

let me know if this is enough to go on

OK, so you’re certainly not a novice!

I’m sure everyone will have a slightly different opinion on this but if I was in your position, with your experience I would be booking my ICND1 exam for 2 months time and then the ICND2 another 2 months after that. Then I would devise a study plan that covered each 8 week period.

A lot depends on how much time per day you can devote to studying, but I have assumed you can do at least 1 hour per day with more at the weekend.

I’m sure you could do it more quickly if you attended intensive courses or you could take much longer, say 8 months, and there would be nothing wrong with that.

hope this helps somehow. I guess I try not to worry about how long it will take me to get a cert rather, as Nike say, just do it and it takes as long as it takes.

oh yeah, and I forgot to say how long it took me to get CCNA…

I wanted to get the CCNA for a long time and made several stalled attempts at studying for it. Other things just get in the way sometimes like work, other vendor technologies and life in general!

In the end I took six months of regular study to get my CCNA with approx 2 years of relevant work experience behind me.

Very valuable information! 2 months per exam seems reasonable. Yes I do have at least an hour a day during the week and more on weekends. I think I will go ahead and schedule my exam once I solidify my lab hardware. I’m in the midst of scrounging up old equipment at my job and shopping for the other pieces online.

Be Successful To Achieve CCNA Certification

To be frankly, I’d scheduled to write Cisco CCNA exams in July but everything got very out of my control, so I hadn’t done a lot in terms of getting ready.

So I have to arrange it again now…

In fact, at the beginning of this year, I bought a book with a CD which consists of a number of tests, but the book is written with about 900 pages. It’s really a bit challenge to review, although it’s well written and very useful. It is practicable to use it as the be-all and end-all of computer troubleshooting guides.

However, to purchase a Pass4sure Prepkits to facilitate my studying rather than try to slog through this tome. I used Pass4sure Prepkits for taking the first three Cisco exams and passed with much higher than needed scores.

These were reasonably priced, compared to what I paid for the book, and I like the interactive structure a lot more than just reading.

Although there were a few defects made the Kits not so perfect, that didn’t decrease its value.
One thing I liked was the tracking page that kept track over how well you were doing – it would show you when you were getting closer to obtaining that passing grade.

The best thing about the kit is the explanations. Pass4sure publishes new versions for most of exams with detail explanations. Plus, they are 100% guaranteed. If one failed (which of course I didn’t) they’d refund the money.

I couldn’t ask for more than that. So I suspect I’ll be buying another one of Pass4sure’s kits in the very near future.
